100% True

It was a pretty good week. I think the highlight for me was Brother Sherrington. We had a really nice lesson with him, his wife, and his younger brother Allan. We were re-teaching the restoration. It was pretty amazing to both me and Elder Hale how well Sherrington understood the restoration. His english is decent but not 100% so sometimes we aren’t totally sure exactly how much he is absorbing. But when we were talking about the restoration, his brother Allan, who is a member of the New Apostolic church (not my favorite), said something about how our church and that was the same (there are a few similarities, but definitely not the same). Brother Sherrington just kinda started hammering Allan a little bit saying that no, they weren’t the same, that this was the true church. He has a pretty darn clear understanding of the restoration, we are excited to watch the Joseph Smith movie with him this week.

Sherrington was confirmed on Sunday by his new home teacher Bro Saul. I was sitting by Sherrington is fast and testimony meeting and towards the end he asked me if there was still time. I said yeah, do you want to go up and he said yes, but he was afraid. He went up and gave a pretty awesome testimony. I think my favorite part was when he said his old Church was 50% true and ours was 100% true. He also thanked us over the pulpit for what a great job we were doing. He is a funny guy, but very special. So he is doing awesome.

We had some other really nice lessons this week with two families in De Gamma park, the Naval housing area. One had sent for a DVD; they got Finding Faith in Christ but wanted together for ever so we said we would come watch it with them. They really enjoyed it and picked up on some of the doctrine there (usually people are like of course we are going to be with our families after death) and I think have a lot of potential. Great family.

We taught another family in De Gamma which we have been trying to teach forever, but the mom is almost always working the dad is always working. So finally we decided just to bring a fellowshiper so we taught this lady and her two teenage daughters. At first the Mom was kinda cold and when I tried to ask he a few questions about their religious background she told me she didn’t want me asking questions, just to share (I think she might have still thought we were JWs even though i told he we weren’t). As we taught and our fellowshiper, a guy from the township shared a very humble testimony about how the gospel has blessed his life she really started to warm up. We are seeing them on Wednesday. The daughters were pretty funny too They really paid attention and one of them asked us if girls could get the priesthood. We explained that it was a male responsibility and she thought that was not fair. I kinda thought it was funny cause 15 minutes ago she didn’t know about the priesthood and now she wanted to know why she couldn’t have it.

Lets, see what else happened this week. We visited Alistair on monday, it was kinda sad, he seemed to have cooled off quite a bit. He is kinda absurdly worried about the behavior of some members and not so much worried about if the gospel is true or not. We bore our testimonies to him and tried to help him see that who was doing what in the church was kinda a side show and committed him to pray and ask God if he was really there and if the Book of Mormon is true. We started a fast that night for him. We are not really sure what the result was, but he was in church on Sunday and stayed for the whole 3 hours so that is a good sign.

Anyway, well I think that was about the week. Looking back it was a pretty darn good one. Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Love, Elder Martin
