Its been kinda a busy and eventful week. Monday we taught Candice, who invited a friend (boyfriend?) to join us. This guy was a giant! Like at least 6 foot 5 and 260 pounds. He was really nice though and said he would like to learn more, he lives in East London, we sent his info to the Elders there.
Tuesday we spent some time getting the chapel ready for Zone Conference. We were really worried about the AV equipment working for it, but it ended up working fine. Tuesday night we took our whole zone to the all-you-can-eat buffet we found close to our boarding. It was a lot of fun, they had some really good prawns. It was a little rowdy though, having the whole zone plus the APs (18 missionaries) together. Fortunately there wasn’t that many other people there.
Wednesday was Zone Conference with Elder Bricknel. It was very good, I felt uplifted and inspired to do better. It was pretty refreshing. I had already heard some of the thing he shared in a Stake Conference in Cape Town, but it was still good. He talked a lot about a young man in Idaho while he was a mission president there who was not able to serve a mission because of health reasons (cancer in remission and a kidney transplant), but was allowed with special permission to serve within the mission he lived, and able to leave the field at various times for heath reasons. He passed away while Elder Bricknel was there. It is good to think about the privilege it is to serve a mission.
I was on exchanges with Elder Arthur from New Zealand on Friday. He is working in Cleary, but he came to my area. It was nice to do some finding. He is a funny guy.
Saturday we did an exchange with the Assistants in the afternoon. It was pretty routine. It was a nice to be on exchanges a lot this week. Saturday Elder Zarbock interviewed Babalwa for baptism, she is solid and will be baptized with her 8 year old brother on Sunday. On Saturday we also had dinner with the Chimuti family, they live in the township that the other Elders cover. They are like pioneers of the church in Zimbabwe. Brother Chimuti joined the church and served a mission in the mid 80s, was like the first bishop in Harare, is super tight with the Elder Dube, newly called member of the first quorum of the 70. He has two sons, one of whom is named Talmage. They have lived here for a few years, fleeing the poor economic conditions in Zhim. They fed us sadsa (or pap) and a stew and had us eat it in the traditional way, which is with our hands. Its interesting.
Sunday we had another really nice appointment with Candice. We committed her for baptism in three weeks. She is really excited about the gospel and serving in the church. She was asking us like how to pay tithing, how she wants to come fellow shipping with us, and how excited she is to do home teaching. What a champ! Apparently she is also like a contestant in some Miss Africa contest? She is pretty interesting. She does like a lot of personal training and health consulting, she was telling us about all the pseudo-science she is into, like something about eye color being a diagnostic technique for certain health problems and how what kind of blood type you are determines what you should eat. Apparently as an A I should avoid red meat. Anyway, but she will be an awesome member, and I think has the potential to bring a lot others into the church.
As for transfers, no news yet. If my companion is a new ZL (what I am anticipating) they should already know, but I will probably find out tonight. It will be a little weird seeing Washburn and Zarbock leave. Elder Zabock’s family is picking him up.
Anyway, well that is the week. Wednesday will probably be a little hectic for me because it will be my job to kinda manage transfers. There is probably not going to be that many changes to my zone so probably not too crazy.
Love you all!
Elder Martin
